Ready to switch scents? Getting old wax out of your Scentsy warmer takes about 30 seconds once you know the tricks. Here are the three methods I recommend, easiest first.
Method 1: The Cotton Ball Trick (Easiest)
- Turn your warmer on and let the wax melt fully.
- Drop 2-3 cotton balls into the melted wax.
- Let them soak up the wax for a few seconds, then lift them out with the cotton. Done.
Wipe any film out of the dish with a dry paper towel while it’s still warm.
Method 2: The Freezer Pop
- Turn the warmer off and let the wax harden completely.
- Remove the dish and put it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
- The wax shrinks as it chills — press one edge and the whole puck pops out.
Best for when the wax is already cold and you don’t want to wait for a melt.
Method 3: The Warm Pour
If the wax is already melted, carefully pour it into a lined trash can (never the sink — it will clog your drain), then wipe the dish with a paper towel. Handle the dish with care; it’s warm.
What NOT to Do
- Don’t use knives or sharp tools — they scratch the dish glaze
- Don’t pour wax down any drain — future-you will regret it
- Don’t run the dish through a scalding dishwasher cycle — hand-wipe is all it needs
When to Change Your Wax
When you can’t smell it anymore, it’s done — usually after 50+ hours for a full dish. No color change, no drama, it just quietly stops throwing scent. Time for a new cube (or a whole new bar: here’s the full fragrance list).
Lost your dish or cracked it? Replacement dishes and lids are here — you don’t need a whole new warmer.
