How to Clean Wax Out of a Scentsy Warmer (3 Easy Ways)

Ready to switch scents? Getting old wax out of your Scentsy warmer takes about 30 seconds once you know the tricks. Here are the three methods I recommend, easiest first.

Method 1: The Cotton Ball Trick (Easiest)

  1. Turn your warmer on and let the wax melt fully.
  2. Drop 2-3 cotton balls into the melted wax.
  3. Let them soak up the wax for a few seconds, then lift them out with the cotton. Done.

Wipe any film out of the dish with a dry paper towel while it’s still warm.

Method 2: The Freezer Pop

  1. Turn the warmer off and let the wax harden completely.
  2. Remove the dish and put it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
  3. The wax shrinks as it chills — press one edge and the whole puck pops out.

Best for when the wax is already cold and you don’t want to wait for a melt.

Method 3: The Warm Pour

If the wax is already melted, carefully pour it into a lined trash can (never the sink — it will clog your drain), then wipe the dish with a paper towel. Handle the dish with care; it’s warm.

What NOT to Do

  • Don’t use knives or sharp tools — they scratch the dish glaze
  • Don’t pour wax down any drain — future-you will regret it
  • Don’t run the dish through a scalding dishwasher cycle — hand-wipe is all it needs

When to Change Your Wax

When you can’t smell it anymore, it’s done — usually after 50+ hours for a full dish. No color change, no drama, it just quietly stops throwing scent. Time for a new cube (or a whole new bar: here’s the full fragrance list).

Lost your dish or cracked it? Replacement dishes and lids are here — you don’t need a whole new warmer.
